Post-Vaccination Considerations--NEW!!

Hot off the presses! IDPH released the document linked here to guide schools for how to handle it when employees have symptoms right after getting a shot. This is also updated guidance on handling close contacts. PLEASE REVIEW this document! Let me know if you have any questions!

Face Coverings--REMINDER!!

Please remember that face MASKS are required. Face shields or neck gaiters are not acceptable unless due to a specific student/staff breathing/tolerance need. See this link for more information.

COVID Vaccination Updates--NEW!
The next batch of invitations to make appointments should go out late in the day on Tuesday. Please remember that you will NOT get reminder email to schedule--you get the invitation and that's it, so go in and schedule ASAP after receiving it.

Onsite Students with Symptoms
When a student who is onsite reports a symptom or you notice that they have a symptom, please follow these steps:
1. Call Sharon (Lotus) or Mark (Stanton) and let them know the student's name and your location. This will allow them to check if there are any pre-existing conditions that may cause symptoms and frequency (to keep in the back of our mind, not necessarily to excuse possible covid). This will also minimize any contamination in the hallways and office areas.
2. Sharon/Mark will come to your location and will bring their health office form:

The teacher/paraprofessional will fill out the top part with student info and symptoms while Sharon/Mark check temperature and assess the student.
3. Sharon/Mark will record their findings and then they record and put into place the next steps (removed to quarantine room, no symptoms noted, known problem, etc.)
4. Sharon/Mark can then make a copy for the teacher-if they want-and then follow up before filing form in the health record. This is in case something happens another time and we can refer back to it.

Please reach out to Sharon, Marc, or me with any questions! Thanks!

COVID-19 SAFETY PROCEDURES

-NEW Decision Making Tree for Post-Vaccine Symptoms

-Updated FAQs

-Updated Decision-Making Tree

Safety Protocols

*If you have any COVID-10 like symptoms at all or are not feeling well, please DO NOT

come onsite.

If coming onsite:

*You must continue to self-certify using Skyward.

*All staff must enter through the main entrance at each site.

*You must sign in using the sign in sheet, mark that you self-certified, and take and record your temperature. IF YOU HAVE A FEVER ABOVE 100.4 YOU ARE ASKED TO LEAVE IMMEDIATELY AND REACH OUT TO YOUR PRINCIPAL AND HEATHER.

*Once Sharon/Marc are onsite, they will review the sign in sheet and cross check with the

self-certification report. If anyone is NOT cleared or did NOT self-certify, they will meet with them to ensure they are safe to be onsite. If not, they'll refer that employee to Heather.

*If you arrive after Sharon/Marc are onsite, please will report to the Health Office to check in so we know you have self-certified. Your temperature will also be taken and recorded. Employees will know to do this because, when Sharon/Marc arrive, they will pick up the sign

in log and put out a sign that says "Please come to the Health Office to check in".

When you come onsite, you can work in your classroom/workspace.  Please feel free to use it as your own. I'd just ask that you work in that space as much as possible and not travel out much. You can,  of course you can use the bathroom, lounge, copiers, etc. as needed. Please do not congregate in the hallways or in other spaces. We simply want to keep you safe.

If you are alone in your workspace and the door is closed, you may remove your mask. If anyone enters that space, everyone in the space MUST wear a mask and stay 6 ft apart at all times.

When you DO leave your room, I'd ask that you strictly follow the 4 W's to help keep yourself and others around you safe:

1. Wash your hands.

2. Wear your mask.

3. Watch your space.

4. Wait your turn.

If you are concerned that you have COVID-19 or have been exposed to COVID-19 and

have been

or are scheduled to be onsite, please let your principal, and/or me know

immediately so we can partner with you for your safety and for the safety of others.

You can trust that we will keep all this information confidential, balancing staff privacy and

system safety needs.

All staff MUST wear masks AT ALL TIMES

when onsite and in public spaces.

If you are working in an office/classroom

with the door closed, you may remove your

mask. It must be worn when anyone enters

that space with you.

-Please make sure to check your personal email for a survey on COVID 19 for the IEA.  The survey will be open through Thursday.

-**Date Change** Our Spring Articulation Meeting was previously scheduled for Wednesday, March 31.  It will now be held on Wednesday, April 7.  Please mark your calendars.

-The IEA has put together a series of resources to help in teaching about Black History Month.  Feel free to explore as needed:

Great Lakes Resources for Black History Month

First, it is important to note that teaching Black history should not be restricted to February. The same is true of the histories of all marginalized groups. You can find ideas in this Edutopia article.

Teaching Tolerance, which aims to help teachers and schools educate children to be active participants in a diverse democracy, has everything from lesson plans to posters to professional development opportunities. Icing on the cake: They have an educator grant program.

The Learning Policy Institute has developed a tool to help schools advance racial equity.

Here is a guide to teaching Amanda Gorman's Inauguration poem "The Hill We Climb."

The National Education Association has created a list of grade-level appropriate materials.

Edutopia has a curated list of resources.

Teaching About Identity, Racism, and Fairness: Engaging Young Children in Anti-Bias Education was published by the American Federation of Teachers

Additional resources can be found on eShare.

-We are looking for a representative for the regional representatives assembly conference.  This year, NEA's Virtual Representative Assembly is tentatively scheduled for June 30, 2021 through July 3, 2021. The final dates are subject to change.  If you are interested in attending and representing EAFL, please let a board member know as soon as possible.

SELF CARE STATION

Mindful Movement Input--Our numbers have been dwindling at the Tuesday Mindful Movement sessions. Please let me know if you have suggestions on how to make this a more beneficial offering...I'd love your input!

TREAT YO SELF TO SELF CARE

I'm going to use the book 180 Days of Self-Care for Busy Educators by my friend Tina

Boogren to share weekly nuggets of self-care ideas for all of us.

Week 23--Orderliness

"For most people, an orderly environment helps them feel more energetic, more creative,

and more cheerful," (Rubin, 2014). To help keep a handle on outer environments, there's a

GREAT strategy to apply: the one minute rule. Here's how it works: if you can do it in one

minute or less, you MUST do it. Period. That means hanging up the coat, putting shoes in

the closet, sorting the mail, filing the paper, putting the dish in the dishwasher, clearing off your

desk...you get the idea. When we take time to put things in their places, we decrease clutter--

and maybe increase inner calm.

This Week's Invitation: Employ the one minute rule. If you can accomplish a task in one

minute or less, you MUST do it.
