Survey Results
I’ve now had a little time to dig into the survey results and will share the full data set with staff next week. We had 112 responses, which is GREAT, since many responses conveyed information on multiple students in a household.

In terms of themes, here are big picture results:

*The majority of our families report that they are doing well which is, as always, our primary concern.
*The majority of families report that the remote learning work is right on target, and they expressed a ton of gratitude toward D114 and all we are doing.
*Nearly half of families are focusing on only eLearning, and an additional ⅓ are completing both eLearning and Choice Menu work.
Opportunities for improvement are:
1. While a group of families stated that there is too much work or the work is too difficult, another group stated that there is not enough work or that they would like their students to have access to more opportunities to extend their thinking.

Response: Thanks to Erica Barraza, we have been working to build the D114 Detective plan, which will launch this week. There will be 2 levels of difficulty in digital “escape rooms”. We’ll launch information on this on Monday, provide an overview on Tuesday, and then open the rooms right after that. Erica will offer “office hours” each Thursday to give kids feedback, offer support and coaching, and celebrate successes.

2. Families would like teachers/teams to organize work so they have access to “a week at a glance” for their home planning.

Response: Many teams already provide this, but we’ll talk as teams this week to discuss how to streamline information as we head into the end of the year.

3. Families would like more feedback from teachers on how their students are doing related to work completion, accuracy, and behavior during live lessons.

Response: This will be a topic of conversation at team meetings as well. Should we continue with remote learning or a hybrid model in the fall, our plan will include specific time for feedback to students and families.

In my meeting Friday with the Lake County superintendents, it became very, very clear that we are all going to need to develop Plans A, B, and C...and maybe D-Z to be ready  for the fall. There is a very real possibility that we will not return to in person learning, and we will be ready if that’s the direction we need to go.

Most importantly, please please please celebrate our successes, as indicated by families in this data. I was blown away by how well they are doing and all the wonderful things our families had to say about our plans and YOU!!!

SUMMER SCHOOL UPDATE/REQUEST
While we can't yet say what summer school will look like, we do know a few things:

*It will happen from July 13-August 7.
*ALL IEP-entitled students will be eligible and got letters inviting them to join us.
*We will offer "summer bridge" (name of it may change) for our kids identified as
benefitting from more time and support. These are likely the students getting help from
the SWAT efforts, but should be identified during MTSS so we can invite them once we
hear back from our IEP-entitled students.
*We will still offer programming to PreK, EL, and bilingual students.

So...please email me if you are interested in being considered for summer school in any
role. We'll put the plan together as soon as we know how many kids plan to attend
and have more details on what we are permitted to safely do.

You can now earn CPDUs for licensure recertification for hours put in to train and prepare for remote learning. Here is a link to a video on the topic from IEA President Kathi Griffin.

The IEA is asking members to complete a survey on how they can support educators at this time. The survey takes just a few minutes to complete and can be accessed here. Please complete the survey by May 31st.
