Monday Morning Memo 2/21/22

Oner Medrano for his assistance with a student that was in crisis.  Oner can always be counted on to roll up his sleeves and help however he can!!!  Thanks Brother!!
and
Andrea Sekulich for facilitating our ACCESS testing.
and
Coaches Bressett and Medrano for coaching up their girls!!
and
Rachelle, Coach Carvell and Coach Bailey for providing our wrestlers to compete on the Big Mat at GCHS!
-From Jeff Sefcik

A shout out of thanks to Nicole Mild for donating some cool items to our PBIS Store.  Much appreciated.
-From Kim VanHoorelbeke

Thank you Tina Guryn for your help on Thursday!!!😊You saved me a trip to Stanton.
-From Karen Lobodzinski

Thank you to Rachelle Peters for always being there for me when I have a bazillion questions or an ear to listen to me. I love our conversations -especially when they turn to something silly about our own kids and we get to laugh for a few minutes!

To Emily Armbrecht for working together on creating a fun RAFT for her music students, and inviting me into her 5th grade music class to go over it with students!

To Trina Neukam for extending her students in math who were showing a great understanding of the skills. A great way to learn is to teach the concept to others and allowing those students to create a Blooket for the class was a great way to do that!

To Scott Donovan for setting great routines and procedures in his classroom. From the minute students walked into his classroom, they knew to take out their Chromebooks and begin working on the Bell Work. No time was wasted and they were 100% engaged in the GimKit!

To Karen Brnot for creating engaging activities for the  students and for continuously going over classroom rules and expectations with her classes.

To Jamie Smeigh for taking the time to highlight famous African Americans in Social Studies in a cool and engaging way (video clips on each person) in honor of Black History Month.

To Sarah Groebe for flipping it around when discussing an assessment! When going over the quiz corrections, students were asked to explain why the wrong answer may have been considered as a right answer. It was really cool to hear the students explain why someone may have chosen a different answer, why it was incorrect - and then explaining what the correct answer is and why!
-From Stephanie Kaye

Thanks to Jeff Sefcik for organizing a great threat assessment procedure training!
-From Heather

NEW!!!! Lake County ROE Educator of the Year
I'd LOVE to see D114 have a bunch of nominations for these different categories--NO STAFF deserves it more!!!

The Lake County Regional Office of Education will be hosting the first  Educator of the Year Ceremony. The Ceremony will be held at the Lake County Fairgrounds on May 4th, at 5:30 pm. There will be a social hour with dinner. The awards ceremony will take place after the dinner. Ticket information will be provided at a later date.

The Educator of the Year Ceremony will resemble a mini Oscars like celebration. I have included all of the information in this email. The information can also be found on the ROE shared drive under the Educator of the Year folder and on the ROE website under the tab Educator of the Year later today.

There will be 9 categories for nominations. Districts can submit as many nominations for the categories, but all the paperwork must be included for each nomination to be considered. Paper or electronic nomination packets are due to the ROE by Friday, March 18, 2022.

Here is a link if you would like to submit the nomination packet electronically. 2022 Lake County Educator of the Year

2022-23 Calendar
During this week's CTT mini lesson, representatives from the Calendar Committee will be sharing out the 3 options we've built for consideration along with some basic information about the calendar process. Staff will have an opportunity for INPUT on the options, and the committee will review the feedback to determine a model to recommend to the Board for consideration and (hopefully) approval at the March 15 meeting. Prior to the calendar presentations, everyone will be emailed the options and the survey link. THANK YOU to the Calendar Committee for your hard work!!!!

Relationships Matter

Use the next 2 activities throughout the month (and the rest of the year) to keep Black history at the forefront of your lessons and encourage your students to keep learning more. Stay tuned next week for more!

  1. Timeline Activity

Have students put together their own timelines, whether individually or in groups, that focus on specific historical events or people. They’ll have fun putting all the events together and learn lots along the way!

  1. Study & Create Art

-Community Builder:

Blind Artist

Have your students form pairs. The students can’t see each other. One student

gets a drawing you have prepared earlier. Ideally, the drawing should be

something relevant to what you are teaching. The student holding the drawing

needs to give good instructions to the other student. The other student needs

to draw it without being able to see the original picture

-Weekly Cheer/Silly Sport/Brain Break:
