Monday Morning Memo 1/17/22

PLEASE READ BELOW!!!! 👇

We all have different perspectives on things right now. What I think I know is that coming back has been HARD on us all. To that end and in trying to understand others' perspectives, here are some actions we are taking:

*As soon as benchmark data/intervention reviews are completed, we'll shift MTSS meetings to every other week. If any team wishes to meet weekly, we certainly will, but...at this point in the year...teams know the kids who need more support, and taking the week off meetings allows more flexibility to do classroom observations, provide in-class support, and really see how kids are doing.

*At Stanton, ELA Bridge and Teaching and Learning meetings will be combined to provide teams with another time each week to collaborate, plan, adjust for remote learners, and do what is needed to do.

*SAEBRS benchmarking will be done twice this year, and the second collection will happen in February, not now (as was immediately planned). Tier 3 interventions will be put in place after this data is reviewed by teams. At Stanton, we will be streamlining discussion protocols to help this data collection happen more efficiently, reducing team time used for this purpose. We'll still have quality information...I promise!

*For any staff member who would feel safer wearing one, KN96 masks will be available for your use starting Tuesday. You don't HAVE to wear one, but if you wish to do so, we'll have them on hand.

If you have other ideas for how we can work as a team to lighten the load, please share your thoughts. It's so important to see each others' perspectives all the time...but especially now. One Team...All In!

As we kick off 2022, it's time to share our "words" for the year. For 2021, mine was BELIEVE. I needed it... A LOT...during 2021.

For 2022, my word is PERSPECTIVE.

I want to send a HUGE kudos to Betty Cwiak who assisted in my classroom while I taught remotely for a few days. I wasn't sure what to expect, how the kids would respond to me teaching virtually. With your help and assistance in the classroom- I was so happy to see the kids were able to stay focused and get to work while I was virtual. Thank you for your assistance in the classroom. It was truly appreciated! You are a great support. Thank you for all you do!!
-From Dani Jones

To Deb Miller for sharing her lunch with me when I forgot mine.
and
To everyone who has stepped up to make sure our kiddos and I were fine when Morgan was out. You guys all rock.
-From Colleen Robinson

Thank you so much to Gina C. for all your help lately!  From making it possible for me to teach virtually for a couple days, to SEAMLESSLY taking over in my classroom when I cannot be here, you truly lift weight off my shoulders and ease my worries! My class LOVES you and I am so grateful to have you as a teammate, reliable 4TW teacher and friend!  <3
-From Tiffany Tardio Weber

A huge thank you to my first grade teammates, my saving grace Cheryl and all of the other fabulous staff members at Lotus who have stepped up this school year to cover my class when I have been out. Russ and Don, thank you for making my classroom look fancy! Sharon, you are so appreciated, I cannot imagine all that you deal with in a day! Nicole Mild, thank you for noticing my spelling mistakes and always giving me a good laugh when I need one! Love- Jen Groot

Thank you to GIna Crosthwaite, Brittany Miller, Amanda Lorenz and Erica Barazza for proctoring small groups of students this past week.
and
Thanks to Brittany Miller for her diligence in a request.

CALENDAR COMMITTEE
Please let me know if you are willing to be a part of this year's calendar committee. I will do a lot of the advance work to make this as efficient as possible, but I really do value staff participation, ideas, and input on the options we bring forward. We'll set meeting dates based on participants' availability, and I feel pretty confident that we can even meet virtually if that works best for everyone.

SPRING 2021 IAR DATA
At Tuesday night's Board meeting, I'll be sharing our most recent IAR data. Please remember that we did NOT stress this assessment, did not offer it to virtual students, and did not do make ups---and the results show it. Following this presentation, we have an AMAZING presentation about how teaching and learning happen in D114 to celebrate the work that our teams do every single day. I WOULD LOVE AND APPRECIATE IT IF YOU WOULD LOG INTO THE MEET TO SEE THIS FABULOUS CELEBRATION OF OUR DISTRICT!!!!!

If this is something you'd like to be a part of, please plan to join us on Wednesday, January 26 at Stanton at 3:15. We'll share some of our efforts, show you some great activities we learned at Deep Equity Training, and then get input from YOU on how to move forward to help us all continue to grow. Participants will be paid for their time, so mark your calendar if this sounds like something that interests you. More info coming after break!

Winter iReady diagnostic and Reading MAP benchmark will take place this week through 1/21/2022.

As students are completing benchmarks,

*Take time to check in on their goals and celebrate growth!
*If students went down in iReady, check their online paths so they aren’t starting back over and repeating lessons they’ve already done. This may mean you have to change their paths manually.

THIS WEEK District Totals:

*Diagnostic was this week, so time spent on lessons is most likely lower due to some grade levels working on the Diagnostic.

Relationships Matter

All About Check in Check Out!

CICO is a Tier 2 intervention used to build relationships and encourage positive, expected

behaviors . CICO relies heavily on positive interactions and feedback with adults throughout

the day. Take a look at the chart to better understand what CICO IS and is NOT!

CICO IS

CICO Is NOT

A tool used to…

  • Provide structure in a student’s day

  • Create accountability

  • Provide teacher feedback to student and parents

  • Create internal motivation

  • Improve student behavior

  • Increase academic success

  • Create a stronger home-school connection

  • Collect and analyze data to make informed decisions about student behavior

  • A behavior contract

  • A means to provide disciplinary actions

  • Punitive

  • Negative

  • Long term-we want the students to be successful and graduate from the program!

-Community Builder:

North Pole, South Pole

Students are given complex questions and answer by choosing only one side.

(For example, ask, "Is Fern's father in Charlotte's Web a good or bad person?"

All who say good go to one side of the room; all who say bad go to the

other.) Whichever team comes up with the most creative and thoughtful

answer to the question wins or just use it to spark a rich discussion. Sample

questions: "Will you use math in your career?" "Would you rather be a T-rex or

a triceratops?" Would you rather have access to Netflix or YouTube?” “Should

students be able to take mental health days?” “What is a more important

trait to have in a friend, loyalty or trust?” “Do fiction texts need to have a

problem?”
