Lake County ROE Educator of the Year
I'd LOVE to see D114 have a bunch of nominations for these different categories--NO STAFF deserves it more!!!

The Lake County Regional Office of Education will be hosting the first  Educator of the Year Ceremony. The Ceremony will be held at the Lake County Fairgrounds on May 4th, at 5:30 pm. There will be a social hour with dinner. The awards ceremony will take place after the dinner. Ticket information will be provided at a later date.

The Educator of the Year Ceremony will resemble a mini Oscars like celebration. I have included all of the information in this email. The information can also be found on the ROE shared drive under the Educator of the Year folder and on the ROE website under the tab Educator of the Year later today.

There will be 9 categories for nominations. Districts can submit as many nominations for the categories, but all the paperwork must be included for each nomination to be considered. Paper or electronic nomination packets are due to the ROE by Friday, March 18, 2022.

Relationships Matter

March is Women’s History Month, and International Women’s Day, March 8, is also a part of the celebration each year. For educators and students, the month provides a wonderful opportunity to explore and dig deeper into women’s contributions, struggles, and triumphs throughout history.  Over the next month, check back here for resources and activities you can do any day of the year or during the month of March!

Read Malala’s Magical Pencil with your class and spark a discussion about what it means to speak up for something you believe in. This resource includes great questions to promote critical thinking and a meaningful conversation.

-Community Builder:

The Clapping Game

This can work in teams or as a whole group. One person from each group (the

Seeker) is sent out of the room. The others in each group (the Helpers) decide

on an object that the Seeker can easily find and touch. When all groups have

decided on an object, Seekers are invited back. Their goal is to find the object.

The helpers give the Seeker a “helping hand” by clapping. The Helpers may be

seated or may follow the seeker around the room. They clap low, slow, and

quietly if the person is “cold.” They lap higher, faster and louder as the Seeker

gets “warmer.” When the seeker finds the object, the group cheers.

Teach Plus is offering three different fellowships for educators in the 2022-2023 school year

·        The Illinois Early Childhood Educator Policy Fellowship -This highly selective policy fellowship is for all levels of Early Childhood educators; it allows participants to address policy issues by engaging directly with their local legislators, and receive professional training. The deadline for applying is April 24th, 2022, at 11:59 p.m.

For more information on the ECE Policy Fellowship, please email Sinthu Ramalingam at sramalingam@teachplus.org

All of Teach Plus’ programs are highly selective leadership opportunities for outstanding teachers looking to expand their influence without having to leave the classroom. They span the 2022-2023 school year and offer selected teachers a generous stipend for their time and work. This is a valuable partnership! Help Teach Plus Illinois mobilize its efforts to select innovative teachers, by applying to be a Policy Fellow or Change Agent! For all programs, we are seeking cohorts of excellent teachers who reflect the cultural, linguistic, and geographic diversity of our students. Additionally, applicants:

Stanton
With all that we have to remember and do, the PBIS team thanks everyone for committing to the use of PBIS points as a Tier 1 intervention. The system in place is our delivery of points and the store, but our continual conversations with students around behaviors is the real intervention. Our top five point providers in February are:
  • Matt Shannon
  • Molly Goodsite
  • Dani Jones
  • Walter Nickles
  • Katie Jalove

Kudos to Lisa Werner. Great work to help a student this week. I appreciate your organization and collaboration to help him be successful in writing and gathering research. Great teamwork to help him be set up for success. Thanks for all you do!--
