We continue to plan for the following:

Monday, 11/9--restart bus runs for delivery of meals (daily) and materials (Fridays). Families can also pick up at Lotus from 8-10AM (Monday-Thursday) and 9-10AM (Friday). We'll need materials sorted alpha by bus, please. I know this is a pain, but it makes a HUGE difference for our families. THANK YOU for making this happen.

See plan linked here for student groups/safety plans.

See plan linked here for staff expectations.

*SpEd self contained classrooms resume in person learning M, T, Th, F

relative to our potential to open more fully on 11/30. I'll continue to post data daily so there are no

surprises for anyone.

Rating Scales
As promised, here is clarification on the "WHY" and "HOW" of completing rating scales as part of the student evaluation process. Thanks to the team who created this! :)

Some key thoughts:

No exceptions have been given to special education. We are charged with completing the comprehensive evaluations within the legal mandated timelines.

WHY of rating scales:

  • In regards to accuracy of the rating, the design of the scales includes an indicator if the data presented is at risk for being unreliable

  • They are not a diagnostic tool, they are indicators for areas of concern because your rating shows at risk for depression, that is not a diagnosis rather an area of concern.

  • The scales are used to determine areas of need and potential areas of service.’

  • Teachers are expected to complete all questions based on their knowledge of the student.

  • They are but one piece of the total picture of a student. There are multiple teachers that can fill out scales, as well as a parent component.  Teacher interviews are also part of the evaluation process, these scales are not the sole data point for determining eligibility for a student.

HOW of completing rating scales:

  • A social worker can go through the scales with you.

  • There is a note section as part of the scales for you to record any additional information you would like to share.

  • For beginning of the year evaluations, past year teachers were asked to complete the scales, moving forward it would not be best practice to use that data. However, the BASC scales ask for input on how long you have known the student and results are valid if you know the student for 6 weeks. So, at this point, we need the input of the current teacher(s) for the ratings to be valid.

Supply Money Reimbursement

REPEAT REMINDERS...

Travel Guidelines

As you may know, the Lake Co Superintendents meet each week with the Lake County Health Department. Yesterday, the topic of out of state travel came up. I asked for more clarification on travel, especially as we head into breaks...especially Thanksgiving...and here is guidance based on the directions from the Health Department:

AS OF RIGHT NOW--KNOWING THIS MAY CHANGE:

*Avoid travel if at all possible.
*No matter where you are, strictly follow the 3 W's:
  • Wear a mask
  • Wash your hands...A LOT
  • Watch your space---stay 6 ft apart
*Continue to use our self-certification protocol daily upon your return.
*Notify your principal and me of any COVID contacts or new symptoms immediately.

All this means that--as of today--we will NOT have to ask you to quarantine if you travel out of state BUT within the US. However, please CAREFULLY consider out of state travel and, as or more importantly, be sure you are following safety precautions no matter where you are!!!!

Clocking In and Out

Hourly employees should clock in and out each day you are onsite. This helps us know who is in and also is used to confirm payroll. THANK YOU!

I'm sharing the Wednesday CTT calendar with you here. It's a work in progress, but you can check back in to see how times are added. Please note that there will almost always be a mini-lesson and then time for your teams to work.

COVID-19 SAFETY PROCEDURES

EFFECTIVE 10/26/20

Safety Protocols

*If you have any COVID-10 like symptoms at all or are not feeling well, please DO NOT come onsite.

If coming onsite:

*You must continue to self-certify using Skyward.

*All staff must enter through the main entrance at each site.

*You must sign in using the sign in sheet, mark that you self-certified, and take and record your temperature. IF YOU HAVE A FEVER ABOVE 100.4 YOU ARE ASKED TO LEAVE IMMEDIATELY AND REACH OUT TO YOUR PRINCIPAL AND HEATHER.

*Once Sharon/Marc are onsite, they will review the sign in sheet and cross check with the self-certification report. If anyone is NOT cleared or did NOT self-certify, they will meet with them to ensure they are safe to be onsite. If not, they'll refer that employee to Heather.

*If you arrive after Sharon/Marc are onsite, please will report to the Health Office to check in so we know you have self-certified. Your temperature will also be taken and recorded. Employees will know to do this because, when Sharon/Marc arrive, they will pick up the sign in log and put out a sign that says "Please come to the Health Office to check in".

When you come onsite, you can work in your classroom/workspace.  Please feel free to use it as your own. I'd just ask that you work in that space as much as possible and not travel out much. You can,  of course you can use the bathroom, lounge, copiers, etc. as needed. Please do not congregate in the hallways or in other spaces. We simply want to keep you safe.

If you are alone in your workspace and the door is closed, you may remove your mask. If anyone enters that space, everyone in the space MUST wear a mask and stay 6 ft apart at all times.

When you DO leave your room, I'd ask that you strictly follow the 4 W's to help keep yourself and others around you safe:

1. Wash your hands.

2. Wear your mask.

3. Watch your space.

4. Wait your turn.

If you are concerned that you have COVID-19 or have been exposed to COVID-19 and have been

or are scheduled to be onsite, please let your principal, Maddie Espinoza, and/or me know

immediately so we can partner with you for your safety and for the safety of others.

You can trust that we will keep all this information confidential, balancing staff privacy and system

safety needs.

All staff MUST wear masks AT ALL TIMES

when onsite and in public spaces.

If you are working in an office/classroom

with the door closed, you may remove your

mask. It must be worn when anyone enters

that space with you.

In addition, the steps below (from the CDC website) MUST be taken if you have been diagnosed with or

exposed to COVID-19:

Unemployment Fraud, Insurance Fraud, & Identity Theft on the Rise
The IEA is cautioning members that reports of unemployment and insurance fraud, and identity theft are on the rise.  If you or someone you know is a victim, you must either contact the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) by phone at (800) 814-0513 OR use the contact form to promptly report it. Using both methods of reporting may cause delays in reviewing your case. Get more information at: Reporting Unemployment Insurance Fraud.

IMRF Trustee Election
Support Staff members received a ballot in the mail at the end of October and are due back by December 4th.

NEW--Jill and Jeff have put together a schedule of FUN staff events. Please watch your email for this.
Our goal is to offer options to stay connected, relax, and have fun together. The District will pay for these for those who want to participate in any/all. Since the Board conference is cancelled this year, we are reallocating these funds to provide some TLC for our amazing staff.

TREAT YO SELF TO SELF CARE

I'm going to use the book 180 Days of Self-Care for Busy Educators by my friend Tina Boogren to

share weekly nuggets of self-care ideas

for all of us.

Week 12: Gratitude

Consider this: Gratitude can help you appreciate the good days and pull you out of negativity on days

you struggle. It can help you take a step back and refocus your attention on the positive rather than the

negative.

This week's invitation: Practice gratitude every single day.

*Monday-First thing in the morning, write down 3 things you're grateful for. Think beyond the

obvious and consider the "little things". (example: one of mine is my cup of hot coffee with a

little cream that I enjoy every morning before I work out). .

*Tuesday--Take a photo of something you're grateful for. You can share it on social medial (#gratitude),

or just keep them on your camera roll.

*Wednesday--Send a text expressing your gratitude for someone. The more specific you are in the

details, the better...the details mean the most.

*Thursday--Right before you go to bed, write down three things you're grateful for from the day. See

if you prefer morning gratitude (like Monday) or evening gratitude.

*Friday--Write a handwritten note of thanks to someone. Stick in in the mail, take a picture and text it, or

(if you can safely do it) deliver it and even read it to the recipient.
