FALL PLANNING UPDATES

WELCOME BACK!!!!!

Clear is kind. Unclear is unkind. A new excerpt from... | Brené Brown

Please find the final schedule for the week linked here and attached to the Monday Memo email. There are also hard copies available in both offices for pick up if you prefer that. :) As you will see, we are building in LOTS of time for you to work, plan, collaborate, and learn. If you hit a roadblock or need help with ANYTHING, please reach out. We are all in this together!!!!

Safety guidelines must be followed at all times...and all times you are onsite. We will ask staff to complete a self-certification verification as part of our beginning of the year procedures. I'll talk about this tomorrow morning, and you'll get the first email with the form tomorrow morning.

We've also updated the Student Handbook with COVID language. Please click here to see the updated Handbook.

Here's a sneak peek at more of tomorrow morning's presentation... thanks to the Guiding Coalition teams for reviewing these "tights" for remote learning:

We are also asking all teachers to share their Google Classroom/Meet links with administrators so we can jump in to visit, help if needed, support if/when a sub plan is in place, etc. Administrators will NEVER join in for evaluation purposes without first discussing with you. The Evaluation Committee is meeting in early September to create shared expectations. Those will be shared ASAP and NO observations will be done until we are in agreement on the processes.

A few repeat reminders from last week's Memo:

*Please know that, while we are in full remote, Wednesdays are days the buildings WILL be open and staff CAN be onsite. Since we will have so few kids and staff onsite, we can disinfect and sanitize daily and a full closure isn’t required.

*All certified staff are expected to report onsite at least 2 days full work days per week. You are welcome to be onsite as often as you like...this is your home. Our hope is that teams arrange to be onsite at the same time as much as possible for collaboration, support, and connections! If you have any medical or childcare issues that prevent you from reporting, please contact me IMMEDIATELY. We need to be able to plan with you and the goal is to make this all work for everyone as much as we possibly can.

*Support staff should plan to report 5 days per week as it is difficult to complete your job responsibilities from home. If you have medical or childcare concerns, please contact me IMMEDIATELY.

*On days you are onsite, we’d ask gently that you please leave the building by 4:00 daily so that we can clean thoroughly. Thank you so much in advance!

*We have NO INTENT to furlough or lay off anyone. We have work for everyone to do as long as people can be flexible!

*We WILL have kids onsite for learning! Students invited to be onsite 4 days/week are PreK and our most complex IEP-entitled students. Students invited to be onsite Wednesday only are IEP-entitled students whose goals/SpEd support time are a majority of their day. All other IEP-entitled students will receive support through remote learning. Every single IEP-entitled student will have to have a Remote Transition Plan written--training and time for this will be provided during Welcome Week. It’s really not too hard--I promise! :)

*Yes, you CAN record your live lessons to post for families to view later. I checked with legal counsel and this is ABSOLUTELY ok. I have written a letter indicating this and setting out the parent expectations for this and it will be handed out to families with the updated Acceptable Technology Use Policy at materials pick up. This means you do NOT have to do double lessons to post...just record what you lead remotely.

*Grab and Go meal pick up will continue through the week of August 17 and then will stop. Starting August 24 (the first day for students), we will shift to meal drop off by our buses. Daily meals will be dropped off by bus stop on the Lotus bus schedule. Our drivers will have route helpers to do this. This keeps families from having to leave home to get meals so they can stay home to support remote learning. We’ll push out a reminder each day. We will discuss the logistics of this during Welcome Week to make sure everyone knows their role and has input into the process.

*We’ll also use the bus routes to deliver any materials that students need EACH FRIDAY. Teams will be responsible for organizing these materials, but this will allow us to get supplies, hard copy documents, books, novels, etc. to our students when we need them to have them. The supplies will stay on the routes so--in case someone misses a Friday drop off--they can still get the materials.

As always, when you have questions, please ask. When you have suggestions, please bring them forward. We are ONE TEAM, ALL IN...now more than ever.

FLASH BACK...FLASH FORWARD TO START THE YEAR!

COVID-19 SAFETY PROCEDURES
If you are concerned that you have COVID-19 or have been exposed to COVID-19 and have been or are scheduled to be onsite, please let your principal, Maddie Espinoza, and/or me know immediately so we can partner with you for your safety and for the safety of others. You can trust that we will keep all this information confidential, balancing staff privacy and system safety needs.

All staff MUST wear masks AT ALL TIMES when onsite and in public spaces.
If you are working in an office/classroom with the door closed, you may remove your mask. It must be worn when anyone enters that space with you.

In addition, the steps below (from the CDC website) MUST be taken if you have been diagnosed with or exposed to COVID-19:

COMING ONSITE:

If you are sick, STAY HOME.

If you come onsite, you are self-certifying and verifying that:
*You are not experiencing any known symptoms of COVID-19, including,  a fever (100.4 or higher), cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills, fatigue, muscle and body aches, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell, congestion or runny nose, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or any other COVID-19 symptoms identified by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) or the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).

*Within the last 14 days, you have not tested positive for COVID-19 and do not suspect you have COVID-19.

*Within the last 14 days, you have not had close contact with someone who has tested positive for or is suspected of having COVID-19. For COVID-19, the CDC defines a close contact as “any individual who was within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes starting from 2 days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic patients, 2 days prior to positive specimen collection) until the time the patient is isolated.

*Within the last 14 days, you have not traveled internationally.

Social distancing of 6 feet and following handwashing procedures--inside and outside--remain expectations and a priority for your safety and the safety of those around you.

We are looking forward to a great school year! Please keep in touch if there is anything that you need throughout the school year!

For this year's back-to-school gift, all EAFL members will be receiving an EAFL mask! The masks will be in the teacher's lounge at Stanton on Monday and Tuesday, then will be at Lotus Thursday and Friday. Please pick-up a mask at whichever building works best for you. Please only take one per person to make sure we have enough for everyone, thanks!!!

The EAFL executive board will be meeting on Thursday of this week. If you have any concerns that you would like them to discuss, please connect with an executive board member before Thursday.
