July 6--Summer Monday Update

Shout Out | Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City
Thank you to the Equity Core Team for another fabulous meeting. We are planning to do a shared book study as a team, and are looking at professional development opportunities that can help us ALL learn more and reflect on our own beliefs. More to come, and all are welcome. The next meeting is July 15 at Lotus from 10-11:30. At this meeting, we'll be "book talking" different titles to find the one we want to read as a team.

UPDATES ON REOPENING PLANS
The Fall 2020 Planning team met last Tuesday to begin to dig in on planning. The slides we used are linked here in case you want to check them out.

We'll be meeting as building-specific teams this week to review the family survey data and to start developing schedules and plan so we all are clearer on what will be happening...if all stays as is.

As always, you can trust that we will keep you updated. These are rocky waters and we'll need everyone to remain flexible, solution-focused, and collaborative...just like we always are. So glad to be in D114 at this time!

We need to keep this message on repeat and remember to stay ONE TEAM...ALL IN!

STAFF SURVEY
Speaking of planning and safety...on Monday, I will be sending out a staff survey to get information from you on your thinking for the fall. Thank you to Melissa Jakstas for partnering with me to create this survey. I would greatly appreciate a response from each staff members, as I really want to know how you're feeling and so we can use the information in the survey to make our opening plans. Please know that we will keep any details shared confidential. Also, if you choose NOT to reply, I will assume that you plan to return to your assigned position in person. THANKS!

SUMMER LEARNING
We are looking for and will be developing summer learning opportunities. I know Erica Barraza shared this earlier, but this seems like a GREAT opportunity.
July 15-17

This conference is hosted by all upper elementary education teachers (3-5) but many of the ideas can be adapted to any grade level. Check out the brochure for a description of sessions.

STIPENDS FOR 2020-21
The Stipend Committee met last week and had a chance to review all proposals and applications. More information will be sent to those who applied next week. Please remember...all stipends are on hold until we know more about what we will have the capacity to safely do.

GRAB AND GO MOVES!
Grab and Go is now held at LOTUS each Monday and Thursday from 7:30-10:00AM. The roof work at Stanton is pretty messy and, since we will be offering meals as part of Summer School at Lotus, it makes sense to relocate all food service to Lotus for the rest of the summer. Please be on the lookout for a new sign up sheet! Questions---please reach out to Mary Taylor or Georgette Franco!

SUMMER SCHOOL PLANNING
Summer school starts on July 13. We have staff training sessions Monday and Tuesday of this week to talk through protocols and make sure everyone is clear and feels safe and supported as we have staff and students back onsite. I know I am SO EXCITED at the thought of having kids back at school again!!!

LAPTOPS! :)
If you need your laptop for summer professional development/curriculum work, you can feel free to keep it.
ALSO---all certified staff will be getting new laptops for school use on or after August 10! We have leased new devices that are updated, easier to carry, and allow for needed software updates! YAY!

FLASH BACK...FLASH FORWARD TO SUMMER CURRICULUM WORK!
THANKS to everyone for your work to complete the FLASH BACK reflection to help us know where our students' gaps exist!!!!
The FIRST priority for any summer curriculum work is to use the FLASH BACK information to better understand what kids need. This then should be used to help plan starting the year. The tools you need are linked below:

COVID-19 SAFETY PROCEDURES-
If you are concerned that you have COVID-19 or have been exposed to COVID-19 and have been or are scheduled to be onsite, please let your principal, Maddie Espinoza, and/or me know immediately so we can partner with you for your safety and for the safety of others. You can trust that we will keep all this information confidential, balancing staff privacy and system safety needs.

All staff MUST wear masks--how is that working so far?

What has been in practice is that, when staff can maintain a 6ft distance from others, they are not required to wear a mask. For example, anyone working in their office, in a classroom, or at a desk/station where 6ft distance can be maintained. When out in the hallways or interacting with others in situations where 6 ft cannot be maintained or when collecting/handing out materials, masks must be worn for the safety of everyone.

When I have been around others and we are sharing a space, I have stated, "I'm comfortable with you not wearing a mask if you are comfortable as well." We have then maintained a 6ft distance. I ask this to make sure others feel safe. If they are not, then we keep masks on.

In addition, the steps below (from the CDC website) MUST be taken if you have been diagnosed with or exposed to COVID-19:

COMING ONSITE:

If you are sick, STAY HOME.
No one can come to work who is sick and/or has a temperature at or above 100.4.
Staff must take their temperatures at home.
If you don't have a thermometer at home, let the administrator on site know and we'll take your temperature for you.
Wash your hands regularly!
All staff should wear masks when onsite.
All staff should wear gloves when handling materials that others will also use.
