It's definitely fall...and the clocks show it! What time is it?!?!

D114 SPIRIT WEAR IS READY!

Huge shout out to Lynn for taking my class into my room and reading to them while I took care
of a situation with one of my friends.
-From Kally Kibitlewsi

I would like to thank Russ and Tim for being my heros. They protected the reading room from
our furry friends. Russ caught the furry friend that was feasting in my desk. He even made sure to
get it out of my desk before I arrived at school so that I didn't have to see it! Tim made sure to check
the situation each night for me. Everyday this week, Russ and Tim have diligently checked to make
sure no other furry friends are visiting the reading room. You guys are the BEST!
-From Joan Kantenwein

Thank you Norm for getting lines on the field for our soccer unit!

Thank you Janette Jennings for all your help in 6th grade PE!

Thank you Abbey for changing your schedule to support our friends in the ECSE classroom
while Ms. Lauren was at professional development. It really helped keep some consistency.

Business Office Updates

2019-20 Calendar Input
It's already time to start thinking about NEXT school year...can you believe it? A key first step is
planning the calendar for the year, and this year we'd like to open up the opportunity to participate in
the planning to all staff.

This is a VOLUNTARY committee, and meetings will take place in December and January, with dates
TBD but times 3:30-4:45.

Please email Heather to let me know if you'd like to participate. If we have LOTS of volunteers, we
may select so that the group is manageable and different position groups are involved.

A Profile of a Well-Educated Person

        In this report from Getting Smart/XQ Institute, Tom Vander Ark, Mary Ryerse, and co-authors
present a blueprint for competency-based education. “Students who are deeply engaged in their own
learning and fully prepared for all that the future has to offer,” they say, have the following
characteristics:
• Masters of all fundamental literacies:
-   Building the academic core necessary to prepare for college, career, and life;
-   Critical readers;
-   Compelling writers;
-   Mathematical and numeric thinkers;
-   Data and visual thinkers.
• Holders of foundational knowledge:
-   Curious people who are knowledgeable about the world, its history and culture, its sciences and
underlying mathematics, its biology and cultural currency;
-   Engaged participants who are key to creating a more just and functional democracy – who
participate fully in all America has to offer.
• Original thinkers for an uncertain world:
-   Sense-makers – dealing with conflicting knowledge;
-   Generative thinkers – creating many ideas in ambiguous and new situations;
-   Creative thinkers – reframing, imagining, and seeing problems from different perspectives.
• Generous collaborators for tough problems:
-   Self-aware team members who bring their strengths;
-   Talent-seekers who find the expertise of others;
-   Essential co-creators – because of what they bring, and how they show up;
-   Inquisitive world citizens who seek out – and respect – diversity and diverse points of view.
• Learners for life:
-   Self-driven, self-directed; curious learners – about themselves and the world;
-   Inventors of their own learning paths, careers, and lives.
