NEW!!!! Lake County ROE Educator of the Year
I'd LOVE to see D114 have a bunch of nominations for these different categories--NO STAFF deserves it more!!!
The Lake County Regional Office of Education will be hosting the first Educator of the Year Ceremony. The Ceremony will be held at the Lake County Fairgrounds on May 4th, at 5:30 pm. There will be a social hour with dinner. The awards ceremony will take place after the dinner. Ticket information will be provided at a later date.
The Educator of the Year Ceremony will resemble a mini Oscars like celebration. I have included all of the information in this email. The information can also be found on the ROE shared drive under the Educator of the Year folder and on the ROE website under the tab Educator of the Year later today.
There will be 9 categories for nominations. Districts can submit as many nominations for the categories, but all the paperwork must be included for each nomination to be considered. Paper or electronic nomination packets are due to the ROE by Friday, March 18, 2022.

Dear Families,
I hope you have had a wonderful weekend!
Late in the day on Friday, the Centers for Disease control announced that, effective immediately, masks are fully optional on public transportation operated by public school systems.
This means that, starting Monday morning, masks are FULLY OPTIONAL on our buses/vans. Any student/staff who chooses to wear a mask can certainly continue to do so, and all choices will be respected.
Let's all celebrate that, as we move past COVID, we can also move toward more choices and things feeling more like normal again!

Read books or watch videos with your class, then discuss the themes and lessons of each
piece of media. After this, you can assign work based on them.

Host Thought Activities
Strengthen collaboration skills with various thought activities during February. These will get
students thinking and help them learn new ideas and perspectives from each other.
Start by posing a relevant question to your class, like:
Encourage plenty of participation, then discuss everyone’s answers together!

Minefield
Define a square area in your classroom. You can use tape for this. Now, place
plastic cones or cups everywhere in the square area. This now represents a
minefield. Split up students in groups of two. One is blindfolded, the other gives
instructions. The blindfolded students have to cross the minefield without
touching or knocking down the plastic cups. The other students give accurate
commands so the blindfolded students can cross the minefield without
blowing up a “mine”.
